Location
Cork City is located on the southern coast of Ireland. The Republic’s second-largest city, it’s known for its vibrant music scene and gastronomic offerings. The first known settlement dates back to the sixth century, and the city later became an important defensive site due to its natural deep harbour.
Known by locals as the “real capital”, Cork is a friendly and welcoming city. There are a myriad of fine restaurants, pubs and bars, cosy cafés and markets to enjoy. The city centre is located on an island in between two channels of the winding River Lee. The symposium’s main venue, MTU Cork School of Music, sits on the riverside and gives views across the city skyline.
MTU Cork School of Music (MTUCSM) is located in the heart of Cork City. MTUCSM is Ireland’s leading conservatoire, providing tuition in music, drama and the performing arts. Founded in 1878, it has provided instrumental and Kodály-based musicianship tuition to children for almost 150 years. As a constituent school of Munster Technological University, MTUCSM also offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in music, theatre and drama, popular music and musical theatre. Research is thriving in MTUCSM, with both masters and doctoral programmes on offer. MTUCSM is proud to host the 28th International Kodály Symposium in August 2027.
